Hyvä theme pricing: Free vs Hyvä Commerce vs Hyvä Enterprise
Hyvä Themes' pricing has multiple tiers that get confused regularly. The free community theme. The paid Hyvä Theme license. Hyvä Commerce. And the often-misunderstood "Hyvä Enterprise" — which isn't actually a separate product.
This post is the plain-English explanation of each tier, what's in them, what they cost, and which tier matches which use case.
The four tiers
Tier 1: Hyvä Theme Fallback (community / free)
A community-maintained free Hyvä-compatible theme. Functional but limited. Intended for evaluation, not production.
Cost: Free.
Use for: Spinning up a local Hyvä environment to evaluate the developer experience before committing to a paid license.
Don't use for: Production traffic on a commercial site.
Tier 2: Hyvä Theme (paid, individual license)
The official Hyvä Theme license. One-time per-domain fee. 12 months of updates included; renewals optional.
Cost: ~£1,000–£3,000 per domain, one-time. Check hyva.io for current pricing.
Includes:
- Hyvä Theme — storefront frontend (PDP, PLP, search, cart, customer account, CMS)
- 12 months of updates
- Vendor support
Use for: Production deployment of Hyvä Theme on a commercial Magento store.
Tier 3: Hyvä Commerce
The broader suite that bundles Hyvä Theme + Hyvä Checkout + Hyvä Admin + Hyvä Insights. Annual subscription.
Cost: ~£3,000–£5,000 per year. Check hyva.io for current pricing.
Includes:
- Hyvä Theme (storefront)
- Hyvä Checkout (one-page checkout)
- Hyvä Admin (modernised admin-panel UI)
- Hyvä Insights (analytics + dashboards)
- All updates throughout the subscription period
- Vendor support
Use for: Production deployment when you want the full Hyvä experience — typically when checkout conversion is a priority or you want unified UX across storefront, checkout, admin, and analytics.
Tier 4: Hyvä for Adobe Commerce / "Hyvä Enterprise"
Confusingly, this isn't a separate Hyvä Themes product. It refers to Hyvä Theme + Hyvä Commerce running on Adobe Commerce (the paid Magento tier).
The Hyvä license itself is the same Hyvä Commerce tier — same pricing, same product. The "Enterprise" label refers to the Adobe Commerce platform underneath, not a separate Hyvä SKU.
Cost (Hyvä side): Same as Hyvä Commerce, ~£3,000–£5,000/year.
Cost (Adobe Commerce side): Variable, based on Adobe Commerce licensing tier — typically enterprise-grade pricing.
Use for: B2B + enterprise Magento stores running Adobe Commerce that want the Hyvä experience including the B2B feature re-templating.
Implementation cost vs license cost
The license cost is rarely the dominant variable. For context:

The "Hyvä Enterprise" confusion
A few sources of confusion worth flagging:
"Hyvä Enterprise" is not a product SKU
There's no "Hyvä Enterprise" license you buy. The term is colloquial — it means "Hyvä on Adobe Commerce" (which Adobe used to brand as "Magento Commerce Enterprise"). The Hyvä product you buy is Hyvä Commerce.
"Hyvä Commerce" works on Adobe Commerce AND Magento Open Source
Hyvä Commerce isn't limited to Adobe Commerce. You can run Hyvä Commerce on Magento Open Source 2.4.x as well. Most Hyvä Commerce deployments we ship are actually on Magento Open Source — the Open-Source-tier merchants benefit from Hyvä Checkout just as much as Adobe Commerce ones.
Hyvä Themes and Adobe are separate vendors
Hyvä Themes is an independent company; Adobe is the Magento platform owner. Your Hyvä license is from Hyvä Themes. Your Magento license (if you're on Adobe Commerce) is from Adobe. Separate billing, separate support, separate roadmaps.

What's NOT included in Hyvä Theme:
- Hyvä Checkout (separate license)
- Hyvä Admin UI
- Hyvä Insights / analytics
Hyvä Checkout — what's included (when licensed via Hyvä Commerce)
- One-page checkout replacing Magento's default multi-step checkout
- Address forms, shipping rate selection, payment method selection
- Built-in support for major payment gateways
- Tax + VAT handling
- Saved-card / saved-address flows
- Guest checkout
- Mobile-optimised layout
Hyvä Admin — what's included (when licensed via Hyvä Commerce)
- Modernised admin-panel UI (Tailwind + Alpine, same as storefront)
- Improved data tables, forms, navigation
- Mobile-responsive admin
What's NOT replaced:
- The underlying Magento admin functionality (Magento admin features are the same — just better UX)
Hyvä Insights — what's included (when licensed via Hyvä Commerce)
- Merchant-facing analytics dashboards
- Revenue, conversion, order tracking
- Customer segment analytics
What's NOT replaced:
- Google Analytics, your CRM, your BI tools — Insights complements, doesn't replace
License questions we get asked
"Can I buy Hyvä Theme + Hyvä Checkout separately, without Hyvä Commerce?"
Sometimes. Hyvä Themes' pricing structure changes periodically. Currently Hyvä Checkout standalone is purchasable, but the pricing math usually favours Hyvä Commerce if you want both. Check hyva.io directly for current bundle vs separate pricing.
"Is the license per domain or per Magento install?"
Per domain. If you run one Magento install serving 5 domains, you need 5 licenses. Multi-website Magento on the same domain typically counts as one license — but confirm with Hyvä Themes for your specific setup.
"Are renewals required?"
For Hyvä Theme: renewals are optional. The license itself doesn't expire; only the included updates do. You can run an outdated Hyvä Theme indefinitely; you just won't get new versions.
For Hyvä Commerce: renewals are required. It's an annual subscription; lapsed subscription means no updates and (typically) no continued production-use rights.
"What happens if I let my Hyvä Commerce license lapse?"
You retain the right to keep running the version you had at lapse, but lose update access and (typically) vendor support. Confirm specific terms with Hyvä Themes — license terms vary.
"Does Hyvä Themes offer multi-domain discounts?"
For 10+ domains, they sometimes offer enterprise pricing. Worth asking directly if you're at that scale.
"Are there any free Hyvä Compatibility Modules?"
Yes — many open-source / community-contributed compat modules exist on compat.hyva.io and various GitHub orgs (including ours). These are genuinely free.
The Hyvä Theme + Hyvä Commerce licenses themselves are commercial; the surrounding compatibility-module ecosystem has lots of free + open-source contribution.
The "should I wait for Hyvä [version]" question
Common ask. Hyvä Themes ships versions regularly; waiting for the next one rarely makes sense. The version improvements are incremental, the upgrade path between versions is usually clean (composer update), and delaying a high-ROI migration to wait for a point release costs more than the point release adds.
Exception: if you're hearing about a specific feature in a future version that solves a problem you currently can't, waiting may be worth it. Otherwise, ship now and upgrade as new versions land.
The bottom line
- Free Hyvä: evaluation only, don't deploy to production
- Hyvä Theme paid: ~£1k–£3k one-time per domain, for storefront only
- Hyvä Commerce: ~£3k–£5k/year, for Theme + Checkout + Admin + Insights
- "Hyvä Enterprise": colloquial term for Hyvä Commerce running on Adobe Commerce — same Hyvä license, different underlying Magento
